Marissa Gray| Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I have always been drawn toward working with people.

I love listening to others’ stories, learning about their experiences and their emotions, and understanding who they are and who they hope to be. As a former after-school program manager, school social worker, and preschool administrator, I have worked with children, families, and professionals across a diverse range of demographics. These environments taught me the value of intentionally cultivating healthy systems of support in order to develop and sustain healthy relationships. My professional experiences include providing individual and group therapy for children with behavioral and/or special needs, supporting parents as they tackle the highs and lows of raising children in an ever-complicated world, counseling young professionals navigating the workplace while defining who they are and what they want to be, and developing systems that allow programs to thrive by fostering healthy relationships.

As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can navigate your emotions in order to build and nourish your own healthy relationships. I believe in building a trusting relationship with each client that is based on honesty and curiosity, rooted in authenticity, and open to vulnerability. I believe in bringing compassion and empathy into each session, and I understand that sometimes, these are muscles we need to build or re-build in order to develop a healthier relationship with ourselves and others. We will do that together.

My Approach:

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that our lives are shaped by our relationships, and that we shape our lives by how we are in relationship to others. I specialize in navigating parenting decisions, family dynamics, work-life balance, and life transitions. I utilize a strengths-based, client-centered approach that allows me to tailor support based on the individual. I believe that having a safe space to process emotions and experiences allows you to grow in transformative ways, both during our therapy sessions and within your daily life.

My Background:

I received my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Miami University in Ohio and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. I grew up in the Midwest and moved to Chicago after college for participation in a year-long social justice fellowship. Chicago is now my home, where I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking (and eating!), and reading.
