DBT Women’s Support Group

Empowered Therapy is proud to offer DBT support groups for women at the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. We facilitate closed groups for 6-8 members lasting 8 weeks starting in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter months. Please see below for current openings and registration information.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced based practice created by Marsha Linehan, PhD, that teaches individuals how to decrease anxiety, increase emotional regulation, and mindfully approach triggers or upsetting events in your daily life. The focus of each group experience will be to learn concrete tools and skills to help you deescalate anxieties in your life, foster new self-compassion habits, and increase your sense of well-being. Our first meeting will focus on getting to know one another and learning more about DBT. The following 7 sessions will alternate between skills work and processing the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of both being in the group and trying out these new skills in your daily life.

Facilitators Elizabeth Burke, LCSW, and Larisa Garski, LMFT, are experienced psychotherapists with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in helping people use the tools of DBT to change their lives and foster growth. Elizabeth Burke is the owner and founder of Empowered Therapy where she provides a variety of services to women, including relationship counseling, couples counseling, depression therapy and anxiety treatment. Larisa Garski practices marriage and family therapy at Empowered with an emphasis on helping women, teens, and couples learn the skills and tools they need to actualize change in their lives.

Payment options for each session are as follows: BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) PPO plans if group work is covered or self-pay at $65/session. If you plan to pursue coverage through BCBS, we encourage you to contact your provider prior to the start date of the first session to check coverage and co-pay requirements. Payment is due upon time of service and can be made via cash, check, or credit card. Due to the expectation of commitment to the group, payment for the group will be collected in two installments: half the total cost of all 8 sessions at the beginning of the first session and the remaining half at the final session.
