My Background
Amber is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor specializing in helping people navigate past or present unhealthy relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and/or difficulties with asserting themselves. Amber received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University, and her Bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago, where she majored in Criminal Justice. Having a long-standing passion for advocacy and helping others, Amber spent five years working in the political field before transitioning to working in mental health in 2021.
Amber highly prioritizes establishing a collaborative relationship with her clients of diverse backgrounds to ensure that they feel safe, valued, and understood in session to comfortably explore their lived experiences and begin the healing process. Meeting clients where they are at, Amber primarily utilizes emotion-focused and attachment style-informed techniques to help her clients strengthen their ability to make sense of and healthily respond to their feelings, cope with distressing symptoms, and establish healthier and stronger relationships both with themselves and the people in their lives. Amber often infuses relevant psychoeducation into sessions to help clients understand how their unique past and present influences their difficulties in various areas of their lives.
If people or moments in your life have left you feeling like you’re not ‘good enough’, like you have to constantly watch out for and/or please others to feel safe, Amber invites you to join her in softly unpacking what happened to you and sorting through negative thoughts and feelings you may have absorbed from these places while you were just trying to survive.
By learning skills in session and identifying troublesome patterns, Amber works side-by-side with her clients to determine a healing path they feel motivated to embark on that will aid them in living fuller, authentic lives. To strengthen trust and safety in her work with clients, Amber shows up as authentically warm, compassionate, and curious to discover the client’s story, utilizing humor and gentle confrontation as needed to facilitate the best personal path for healing while prioritizing the client as the co-author of this journey.
Primarily working from an Emotion-Focused therapeutic approach, her work is often informed by and uses techniques from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) just to name a few.
Overall, Amber hopes to provide her clients with a safe, affirming, non-judgmental space where they can unpack their inner experiences, sort through the complexities of what it means to be human, and find a path forward that allows them to feel freer, more present, and more at peace. In her spare time, Amber enjoys spending time with her two cats, consuming all things pop-culture/Taylor Swift related, and reading books.
