My Background

My name is Cristina Galvan, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I have obtained my Masters of Arts in Counseling from Adler University, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have also obtained a certificate in Sex therapy from Adler University. I have worked in the mental health field for 5 years (1.5 years as an intern and 1 year as an AMFT) out of those 5 years I also worked as a mental health provider at a residential facility.

I am a sex-positive, LGBTQ+ ally, and as a queer person myself, I know what it is like to navigate a world filled with cis-heteronormative expectations. I approach everyone with genuine curiosity, acceptance, and respect. I am non-judgmental, open minded, collaborative and I have a great sense of humor.

My approach comes from one of empathy, culturally sensitive and non judgemental. The modalites I tend to use are a combination of Narrative Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to name a few. However, I believe that everyone is different and therapy is not cookie cutter. I believe collaboratively we will find what works best for you. I enjoy working with individuals and couples in relationships that are navigating personal or relationship challenges. I enjoy talking about all levels of intimacy and strive to create a safe space to explore any concerns such as desire discrepancies, sexual exploration, consensual non monogamy/open relationships and kink/BDSM exploration.

Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with family, friends, going to concerts, and eating out. I am a foodie and love cooking/baking whenever I get the chance.. When I am not out, you can find me curled up with a good book, my two cats and enjoying a nice cup of tea.
