My Background

“An unexamined life is not worth living.”  Starting therapy takes courage but tapping into that courage is the first step towards healing yourself and your relationships.

I attended Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) where I obtained a Master in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and completed a Certificate in Couple and Family Counseling.  I am licensed as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).  I practice in IL and MI.  I offer services in English and Arabic.

I have always had a genuine curiosity about the emotions and thoughts behind people’s interactions.  I naturally reflect with curiosity on people’s behaviors and the events that created their positive and negative emotions and attitudes.  Since childhood, I have naturally portrayed an unbiased trust and belief in others that allowed me to befriend those labeled as “well behaved” as well as those labeled “troubled.”  As I actively listened, I realized that everybody has a story, and that those terms are social labels.  I strongly believe that everyone deserves to be believed in; everyone is capable of growth – to be the best version of themselves – if they could find a genuine advocate to walk alongside them during their journey.  This was the basis for my desire to be a therapist.

I have been a therapist for 5 years with extensive experience working with couples and families.  I am dedicated to creating a safe, collaborative environment where families and couples can explore the challenges and stressors interfering with their relationship.  My goal is to support couples and families to heal from the relationship wounds which have greatly impacted their connection, communication, intimacy, and relationship satisfaction.

I’ve worked with couples, families, and individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences facing struggles related to family conflicts, communication issues, infidelity, relationship uncertainty (Discernment Counseling), intimacy concerns, intergenerational family conflicts, trauma, parenting/co-parenting, child behavioral issues (anger/oppositional/isolation), life transition, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and couples requesting premarital counseling.

I utilize a person-centered trauma-informed systemic lens that integrates attachment, psycho-dynamic, and existentialism theories while utilizing techniques from Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, Family System Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I have a casual style with a warm, open, practical, and engaging approach with a touch of humor that is centered on empathy and a sense of curiosity – described by clients as “chatting with a family friend.”  I believe empathic communication is the foundation for change within couples and families.  Through in-session exercises and guided conversations, you will begin to notice yourself gaining greater self-awareness of communication patterns, attachment styles, and relational boundaries to reduce the distance between you and your family.  My hope is that throughout our work together, you can experience movement toward greater emotional wealth to break free from perpetual conflicts impacting the quality of your relationship.

Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with my family – hunting for new playgrounds, playing video games, joking, and traveling.  I also enjoy spending some time alone – playing sports, drawing, contemplating the meaning of life, and catching up with friends.
