My Background

Rachel Justie, LPC, is a licensed professional counselor from the Chicago-area. She graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Roosevelt University with a master’s degree in clinical psychology (counseling practice). She has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient behavioral health hospital, permanent supportive housing complex for people living with severe mental health diagnoses and/or disabilities, and in private practice. She has worked with clients of all ages, and now focuses on working with adolescents, young adults and adults. Rachel works with clients struggling with anxiety (especially work-related and school avoidance), depression, major life transitions, gender and sexuality, and relationship issues.

Rachel works to help create and foster a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space to explore and process a client’s experiences and the thoughts and feelings that come with them. She works to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship, finding that to be the keystone of successful therapy outcomes. Rachel works with clients to build resilience and build on strengths to achieve goals, while being an advocate and ally along the way.

In work with couples, she strives to understand the dynamics and patterns at play, gain a true understanding of both sides, without bias. She then focuses on helping clients build insight, learn, practice and independently utilize emotion validation, conflict resolution and communication skills to improve the quality of relationship.

Rachel utilizes an eclectic approach, meaning she pulls from several different theories/modalities based on the needs of the client; most focus on cognitive behavioral, person-centered and solution-focused approaches, often incorporating mindfulness. She can be as active and directive as necessary, but is also comfortable being an active listener, sitting with emotions and discomfort, providing validation, support and insight.

Rachel spends the majority of her free time outside with her rescue pup, Consuela. She enjoys hiking, walks at the lake, riding bike, and spending time with family and friends. She loves trying new restaurants, hosting game nights and watching horror movies. She is passionate about the things she believes in and takes great pride in being a social justice advocate, continuing to learn along the way.
