Neuropsychological Testing

My Background

Hello! My name is Saad Athar, the current psychometrist working at Empowered Therapy as part of our neuropsych team with Dr. Newman. I completed my BA in Psychology at Rutgers University New Brunswick with a minor in Health Administration, my MA in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University, and am currently pursuing my doctorate degree in clinical psychology (PsyD) at Roosevelt University in the Adult Generalist-Health Psychology track. I additionally am engaged in quantitative and qualitative research regarding multiculturalism, health outcomes for marginalized groups, and the efficacy of evidence-based treatments.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been enamored with the human experience, psyche, and ways in which people interact and influence one another. To me, humans are dynamic and complex beings that psychology helps to explore. Working in neuropsychology, psychological testing allows us to capitalize upon the scientific method and uncover various things about a person; almost like putting together a puzzle to capture each person’s individual experience. To this end, I find myself fascinated with learning more about the human experience in every way I can, and happy to be continuing this life-long journey here at Empowered Therapy!

As an immigrant gay, Pakistani, Muslim clinician, I am cognizant and aware of the importance that intersectionality, our identities, and multiculturalism have in psychology (including testing!). Our identities and experiences are what make us who we are, and I firmly believe it is important to understand how our cultural backgrounds may influence us in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In my approach to testing, I hope to support clients in feeling safe, heard, and collaborative in their sessions. While testing is structured and straight-forward, I want to make sure clients have a sense of comfort in sessions while administering assessments to the highest caliber of treatment fidelity.

When I am not in the office, I can usually be found spending time with my friends and family, studying at various cafes across the city, exploring different restaurants and cuisines, and playing with my Shiba Inu puppy, Toffee!
