My Background

My name is Grace Lanzotti, and I am a licensed professional counselor. During my time studying Psychology and Communication at the University of Cincinnati, I discovered my passion for the mental health field. I always knew I wanted to work in mental health, but desired making meaningful connections with others. This led me to my career in counseling. After graduating, I immediately began pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling also at the University of Cincinnati. I completed a clinical fellowship focused on treating children, adolescents, and young adults, telebehavioral health, and integrative care. During my graduate studies, I completed my clinical internship at a community mental health agency for children and adolescents. I made many meaningful connections and gained knowledge and understanding of social, economic, and environmental barriers that can impact mental health. I moved to Chicago following my graduation and was drawn to making these connections in a private practice setting with Empowered Therapy.
My previous work involved working strictly with children and adolescents with trauma, and I still love working with this population. Though I am also excited to work with more young adults and folks of all ages. I specialize in working with people with anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues, difficulty with life transitions, creating and communicating boundaries, and those with interpersonal and socioemotional communication challenges.
My main focus during counseling sessions is developing a strong connection with clients. I like to accomplish this with a collaborative and non-judgemental approach, and especially with humor! Trust is fundamental within the counseling relationship, so I always approach counseling with kindness and an open mind. I mainly utilize a person-centered approach and incorporate strengths based, CBT, and solution-focused techniques through a trauma informed lens. My approach is always tailored to the client, as one size never fits all in counseling. My goal is to help clients develop insight and skills to utilize on their journey to healing.
Outside of work I love to cook and bake, explore restaurants, travel, read, watch movies, and ski during the winter!
